The neighborhood :
'Madragoa-Santos-Conde
Barão'
Rua da Silva is located at
the convergence of these three central areas. Very close to the
National Republic Assembly ( Palacio de São Bento ) this
neighborhood of
old wharves, factories, narrow streets of apartments houses,
palaces, etc ... was not long ago a bustling hub for portuary
activities. Now things have changed, the port has moved to the
east and the area is rediscovering itself as a mixed area of residences
and shops and the
locally famous « Santos Design District» -.

Close to home you will find easy public transportation via 3 tram
lines, many more bus lines, Cascais train line at Santos or Cais do
Sodre stations. Also hailing a taxi will be easy here even at night.
But
Lisbon is a city to explore on foot, and from here all historic
neighborhoods are close, Basilica da Estrela, Bairro Alto, Lapa
district ect. Also visiting Cascais beach and the coast sites ( Estoril
casino,
Belem monuments... ) can be done using the train line along the river.

Rua da Silva will remind
many the atmosphere of a small village. Here people greet one another,
and don't hesitate to help one another. Obviously in the 21st century,
you will be surrounded by many newly arrived immigrants who'll spice up
your stay with their more tropical atitudes - but all very friendly -
Even though very short this street offers you restaurants and grocery
stores. On a more modern way, you will be able to visit nearby the
shops of "Santos
Design district", the Cais do Sodre area, the "Mercado da Ribeira" and enjoy their special events.
